Mood Boosting Chocolate Porridge

Happy Monday peeps! Apparently it’s blue Monday today and in the UK, most of us woke up to yet another wet and dreary January day 😦

In order to beat #bluemonday… I had mood-boosting chocolate for breakfast and it worked a treat! I used organic cacao powder for my chocolate hit due to the additional benefits.

Cacao powder boosts levels of serotonin, the feel good brain chemical!

Raw cacao powder is also aΒ fantastic source of magnesium which is a mineral that many of us are deficient in and is needed within the body for energy production, healthy digestion, good sleep patterns, blood pressure regulation, healthy bones, healthy heart and so many other things. Adding it to your diet in as many ways as possible is a good idea and raw cacao is a tasty way to do this πŸ˜€

There are many other benefits of consuming the superfood cacao but I will cover that in a dedicated blog post. This post is all about eating a nutritious chocolatey breakfast!

Berries and chocolate is a winning combination! Simple to make and really delicious, this is a winner for those mornings where you wake up feeling a little lacklustre πŸ™‚

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (I used semi skimmed)
  • 1/2-3/4 cup muesli or plain oats – depending on what consistency you like – add more milk if it’s too thick
    • (I used Tesco bircher muesliΒ as it has so many fab ingredients in that you don’t need to add your own saving time and money πŸ™‚ )
      • Ingredients in this bircher muesli;Β OatΒ Flakes,Β BarleyΒ Flakes, Seeds (8%),Β OatΒ Bran,Β SpeltΒ Flakes, Dried Fruit (4%), Buckwheat, Quinoa, Seeds contain: Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Dried Fruit contains: Sultanas, Raisins
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder (I use Indigo Herbs Organic Cacao PowderΒ )
  • 2 tbsp honey (I use Rowse supahoney)
  • Handful of frozen berries (I use Iceland’s frozen berries)
  • Sprinkle of desiccated coconut

Directions

  1. Heat the milk in a pan on the hob until it’s warm
  2. Add the muesli mix and stir through
  3. Add the cacao and mix well
  4. Add one tbsp of honey into the mixture and stir
  5. Pop in a bowl
  6. Top with the frozen berries (no need to defrost as the heat of the porridge does this for you)
  7. Add the remaining tbsp of honey
  8. Sprinkle the desiccated coconut

Enjoy!

With love, Tash ❀ x
