‘Tale as Old as Time’ – Beauty and the Beast Afternoon Tea

My husband and I arrived at The Kensington Hotel just a few minutes before 1pm and we were greeted warmly at the door and shown to our table. Our waiter, Paul explained that we would have a few minutes to look at the vast selection of teas and he would return to take our order.  We had a beautiful table, with comfortable armchairs 🙂

Our waiter returned and we ordered our teas, English Breakfast for me and Earl Grey for hubs. We were asked if we had any allergies or food we did not like and shortly afterwards our starter arrived.

Savouries: Bite sized Venison Pie, Beef ragu and saffron arancini on a bed of lemon crème fraiche and Cheese soufflé roscoff onion pissaladiere (I have no idea what this means but they were just delicious!)

Our waiter was extremely polite and attentive and explained what each of the savouries were and once we had finished he brought out our next course; a cake stand with a selection of sandwiches – Potted Argyle smoked salmon and crème fraiche, Roast Devon Red chicken with cranberry, cucumber and cream cheese and Egg mayonnaise and cress. These were equally gorgeous.

As this was a Disney Beauty and the Beast themed afternoon tea we were delighted to see we had ‘Mrs Potts’ Tea-Pot filled with double cream and ‘Chip’ cups filled with ‘grey stuff’…we did as instructed and tasted it and it was really nice white chocolate cream 😀

Cogsworth was of course a chocolate clock tart and there was a vanilla and gold jelly in a dome to symbolise the rose. Rose petals were also scattered around the table and cake stand.

Throughout our meal the waiter refilled our tea cups with the plentiful supply of tea and the Manager also checked we were happy with our experience 🙂

Our afternoon tea certainly lived up to expectations. The venue was divine, the staff friendly and professional and food was second to none. We are definitely going to book this experience again and I would highly recommend it – what a treat it was!
